I have limited information and welcome further insights!
Here we start off with the story as I was provided.
- Thought to be made from Teak wood by a fellow with the last
initial of "D" of Danish or German decent around the turn of the century.
- Was purchase at auction about 25 years ago along with 2 other
different horse types.
- Commissioned as a statue as it does not have the hole for a pole
as would a regular carousel destined horse.
- Please note (my words): A seemingly sensible match to the
information I was given, would be the carousel builder; Dentzel who
migrated from Germany somewhere around the 1860-70's. BUT!, I've
had several inquiries with returned comments that indicate little
antique importance and of Asian origin?!
It is a male statue that is currently mounted in a shipping crate.
The photo's that I have are just prior to finishing its badly needed
restoration. Some points to note in these pictures is that
a few areas are slightly different upon completion than pictures
indicate.
- The saddle is now all blue and the tassel ends along with the
buckles are gold as it was felt that the purple was not quite right.
- The crate is approximately 5 feet tall, 4 foot long and 18"
wide. Note that the tail is removable and vastly reduces the
crate length required.
The asking price is less than what it cost just to refinish it prior
to its current home in a shipping crate. Ah, oh, well! Hope
it finds a good home and place to stand proudly in its new coat of
color.

Caution Large Pictures Follow!
Please imagine the strap buckles and tassel ends now
colored gold. Also, the saddle is blue in place of the purple trim
as shown here. These are the only pictures we could find.
More current or finished ones, now, look like it would require uncrating.
If other pictures are discovered I'll be sure to share them here also. |
