Watt Computers

4-5 computers, 2 wireless routers, 2 Gbit switches, 3 big LCD monitors etc... pulling around 300W
(live measurements with a watt meter +- 25W )

Apple iPad

A 9.7" LED multi-touch display with 1024x768 resolution (space feels like higher resolution)
64GB Flash, 1GHz Apple A4 CPU, Wi-Fi (a/b/g/n)

This is a really cool device! Far surpasses my expectation!

I like the cover but it won't fit the docking cradle, so I cut the cover to fit on the dock.

The most watt efficient CPU vs. speed in the smallest space I could find. Limited socket P MBs found!
It's relatively fast, cool & quiet. There are however some HDCP issues with the HDMI converter!
BD is ok but nowhere near as good as the PS3! Even DVD's are better out of the PS3!

This works great for music, surf and webTV stuff. Its home is in the TV wall cabinet/stand.

Loud chipset fan slowed down to 2500rpms with a zalman fan mate 2.
Out with the case pwr supply (space hog) and in with a PicoPSU-90: see picture ->
A Scythe S-Flex SFF21D 800rpm 33.5cfm 8.7db S-FDB 120mm fan snapped perfectly into the side with vent holes.

Very Quiet! Low power!

This case was a tossup with others a bit smaller ...
this one won because it has just enough space to hold about anything I might think of doing in the future.

Cool Software
  • Software keyboard mouse sharing:
    • Synergy - free but is not as easy to launch and use with vista as it is with xp. Very Linux friendly!
    • Multiplicity - works great with Vista, Win 7 and  XP but NOT Linux. Super slick file & dir copy!
    • MaxiVista - doesn't support Aero and had issues still in classic mode and windows 7
  • I still think the last Frontpage html editor (2003 release) is the easiest drag and drop web editor.
  • Movie software
    • SlySoft AnyDVD HD ... works great ... words can't describe here! ... takes care of play issues that you shouldn't have such as PowerDVD HD saying your hardware is at issue when you know it is not!
    • ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 3 Platinum - Integrates with Vista MC very nicely and might be the last windows one that will play local drive files to include BD!
    • Check your OEM software... none I tried would do more than 2ch PCM until upgraded to full version.
  • Virtual Box - wow this works great! ... if you want a linux that's slick in "seamless" mode, try mandriva
  • Beyond Compare - the best file sync tool I've been able to find! Works great to keep multiple repositories up to date, such as lossless rips and smaller bit rate repositories 320 etc...
  • My favorite graphics editor is still Paint Shop Pro 7 ... I don't like the newer versions.
  • My favorites for virus type software Avast, SpywareBlaster and Spybot Search & Destroy ... though I do also buy McAfee packs when on really good sale (got paid $20 last year and this year I paid $10 for 3 computers). I'm not very happy with McAfee this year (09)!
