Camp spot for this trip was the
bottom right of the above panoramic picture.
On the other side of that middle rock is the Silver City
canyon/valley.
Stopped for Mocha's on the way out of
town...
Probably the last time those Rickson wheels will ever look clean!
This road chews up regular RV brakes!
I've replaced 2 set after this route.
2wd RV's just don't gear low enough!
Low range is essential going down
and in some spots 4x4 for going up slow.
About 19 miles from the
highway with about
3600ft climb to 6900+ft (mostly in last 9mi).
A good couple hour crawl up or down.
Tree trimming is sometimes required!
Shots of the road.
Of course in the roughest stuff I was driving and not thinking about
taking pictures!
Totally worth the slow crawl!
No other campers in sight or hearing distance!
The yellow arrow marks camp.
Picture taken up by some old mines.
This is the 1st of a few good campsites
where you can park in late afternoon shade!
Temperatures at this elevation had us wearing coats in the
morning & evenings where a spot of sun was quite welcome.
I look forward to revisiting each of the spots
on this route.
Road is great for the first 11 miles!
And other than low gear grades, is very passable with an RV.
That is until you wonder off the main road into Silver City...
That's when you lock it in and crawl...
cut a branch or two when it might tear the side or top of the
camper!
A few interesting things scratched up
around camp.
Chinese coin, fork, knife, spoon, silver spoon end, Paris & 1965 buckles,
pocket watch cover.
